My wife and I are a couple living about an hour outside of Los Angeles, looking for a casual encounter with a like-minded friend. We enjoy working out, binging Netflix, pretty much any sci-fi or fantasy media (books movies ECT.) Or music particularly hip hop, metal, and reggae with a particular bend for enjoying adventures together.
I work as a personal trainer and just launched my own business, and my wife is in the corporate world. This is our first time looking to Reddit for someone to join us after being continually frustrated looking for a third through dating apps.
Feel free to DM and start a conversation about absolutely anything, we're eager to meet new people even if it doesn't develop into anything more than conversation!
This wouldn't be our first experience with another partner, but our first was one of our favorite memories and want to make another soon!

2020.09.01 12:30 Mental_Guava22 Recommend me some bands plz k thx

Greetings fellow humans. I've been outta the local scene for close to ten years due to an abusive now-ex partner fucking my life up. I'm finally getting back in to things now, rediscovering bands I used to love and wanting to discover more. I'm listening to The Distillers at the moment and they seem pretty good. Some of my long-term favourites are:
Missing Teeth (they're one of my top 5)
Stiff Little Fingers
UK Subs
Nirvana
X-Ray Spex
Toy Dolls
most Trojan reggae
The Specials
Operation Ivy
Jenny Woo
Cock Sparrer
Perkele
Bad Brains
and many more, but those are some of the ones I listen to most. Any recommendations for more good music? In particular, women-led bands because I don't know enough of them. I love the idea behind Riot Grrrl but could never get in to most of the music apart from a few Bikini Kill songs.
Thanks in advance.

2020.08.28 07:30 Thundergod250 BACKSTREET ROOKIE Ultimate Review (+Comparison) from someone who ACTUALLY READ THE WEBTOON

TLDR: THIS DRAMA HAD LOTS OF POTENTIAL BUT GOT DERAILED FROM THE WEBTOON AND LOST ITS CHARMS BECAUSE OF CONTROVERSIES.
Since I just finished watching it, I decided to make a review for Backstreet Rookie since there was a lot of fuss about it during its run. WARNING: THIS REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SOME EARLY TO MID SPOILERS BUT NOT ENDGAME SPOILERS. Just some spoilers from the start, up to the middle.
Backstreet Rookie was one of the funniest Webtoon I've read and Ji Chang Wook is also my favorite kdrama actor. Also, his K2 was the number 1 kdrama that I've watched out of hundreds of kdrama I've watched because of how great of a villain Choi Yoo Jin was. I think she was the greatest kdrama supervillain of all time. Despite all that praises, I'm not gonna say that Backstreet Rookie was a great kdrama.
Before all that, I just wanna say that EPISODE 1 AND 2 AND PARTLY 3 WERE ALMOST ACCURATE TO THE WEBTOON, AFTER THAT, IT GOT DERAILED SO HARD.
I'm gonna divide this review into four parts. Introduction. The Comparison Table. In-depth Explanation. And the Drama Review about the kdrama below.
The introduction will be mostly about what is a webtoon and what is Backstreet Rookie Webtoon. If you don't want to read this then just skip it and head to the next part. Comparison Table will be about the comparison between the webtoon and the show that will be explained in the In-depth explanation. And lastly, the review.

INTRODUCTION

Let me first explain to you what is the original Backstreet Rookie and why is it like that. A lot of people made a fuss that the story was weird itself and very R18. Here it is.
Backstreet Rookie was a webtoon but also a manhwa or basically Korean comics (It's manga for Japan and manhua for Chinese). There was this type of manhwa that people called Pornhwa (yes, there's even a sub for it). It is said that since Korea banned porn people had to find other methods for its disappearance and pornhwa is one of them. It's basically a comic full of erotic stories. However, they're so gooooood at it. Because unlike Western Porn comics or Hentai, Pornhwas actually got some decent story, real-life lessons, and very good art that sometimes I'm forgetting that I'm in this genre. Backstreet Rookie is one of these Pornhwas.
So it was weird and all, but that's just what it is because the story itself is really not for kids. To compare it, if you searched it, the top Pornhwas out there was "Stepmom" which is basically a mother who was secretly banging his stepson and "Close as Neighbors" which is about a dude who was banging his three neighbors. They're weird right? Yes! That's what Pornhwa is, however, I really wonder why Backstreet Rookie is in it since it actually had a legit normal story.
But honestly speaking, if you're gonna ask me, I don't think Backstreet Rookie webtoon itself is R18 either. There was a big difference between Backstreet Rookie and other Pornhwas that made me wonder why did I find this story under Pornhwas. Backstreet Rookie doesn't have any sex scenes or even nudity. The only R18 that happened in the Webtoon was Saet Byul's heavily revealing clothes and her boobs being touched so much. But that also happened a lot in ANIME but they were never tagged as R18. ANIMEs are even worst as some of their characters that get this treatment were even underage but Saet Byul was already an adult in the middle of both Episode 1 and Chapter 1.
But the main reason why I loved the Webtoon was because of how funny it was. I started reading it for an entirely different reason but I literally stayed because of how funny it was. It wasn't a pornhwa, it was just a pure gold comedic story.

IN-DEPTH EXPLANATION

First off, let's start with the most Toxic character of the show of all time. Yoo Yeon Joo. I hated her. But not in the Webtoon.
Yoo Yeon Joo - In the KDRAMA, she was not really a good girlfriend to Dae Hyun even at the start. Not to mention that he also cheated on him before breaking up. NO. THAT'S NOT THE CASE IN THE WEBTOON. SHE WAS GREAT IN THE WEBTOON. In the webtoon, she was really a good girlfriend who really got no time for her boyfriend because of her work but still managed to sometime squeeze some time to be with Dae Hyun. Also, in the webtoon, she already told her parents about Dae Hyun and her parents wanted to see him, they totally skipped the RICH PEOPLE STORYLINE. However, in the Kdrama, she got time to exercise but not to really hang out with Dae Hyun. She's also a cheater and somehow obsessive. SHE'S NOT LIKE THAT IN THE WEBTOON. She had always liked Dae Hyun and never fell in love with another person. And she never fought or confronted with Saet Byul because she feels like she was an adult who should be more considerate towards younger people like Saet Byul. But in the end, the same thing happened, Yeon Joo eventually broke up with Dae Hyun in both Webtoon and Kdrama. I really really feel bad for Yeon Joo on the Webtoon but really hated her version on Kdrama.
Jung Saet Byul - Unlike the Kdrama version, Saet Byul on the webtoon was a legit gangster. She never really lost to anyway and I doubt she'll get ever hit. If you're gonna ask me, Saet Byul is basically the female embodiment of CHIEF KIM. A gangster with a big heart but is still a gangster. Saet Byul literally solved all of her problems on her own in the webtoon and doesn't have any emotional breakdown unlike in the KDRAMA. She never lost to anyone in the webtoon. But why do I not prefer the Webtoon? It was because, despite being strong, she was a total A-hole at the Webtoon and the legit reason why Dae Hyun and Yeon Joo's relationship fell apart. In the KDRAMA, we were filled with MISUNDERSTANDINGS, however, that wasn't the case in the Webtoon. Saet Byul purposely did some things that made their relationship fall apart. Also, the Kdrama featured Saet Byul's struggle in life which never happened in the Webtoon since she never lost to anybody. However, Saet Byul's incredible fighting skills and how she was actually a competent Convenience Store employee were the same in both Kdrama and Webtoon.
Choi Dae Hyun - Now, I really liked how they changed this character in the Kdrama. Because the Webtoon version was a total idiot and pervert. In fact, in the kdrama, a couple of misunderstandings are what has led to his break up with Yeon Joo but that wasn't the case in the webtoon. He actually "enjoyed" the misunderstandings. Also, Dae Hyun's family is loaded in the Webtoon, so he's NOT REALLY A GOOD KID WHO WAS TRYING TO LIFT HIS FAMILY FROM POVERTY. In fact, Dae Hyun was the one who doesn't want to meet Yeon Joo's family because he wanted to be successful first that it was years already and he still hasn't met them. He definitely changed and became a better person after Yeon Joo dumped him but I still totally preferred Ji Chang Wook's version.
Dae Hyun's Family - As I've said, his family is rich in the Webtoon, so they totally skipped the RICH PEOPLE STORYLINE. However, I loved his family in the Kdrama despite being poor as they were really likable and funny characters except for her stupid sister. The webtoon doesn't have that feature since they really didn't need to struggle at all since they're rich.
Ji Wook (Puppy) - As much as I liked this character in the Kdrama, he doesn't exist in the webtoon. There was some idiot that was following Saet Byul around, but that character was just a filler and was nowhere near Ji Wook's caliber.
Eun Byul (Saet Byul's sister) - Eun Byul does exists but she was FAR DIFFERENT FROM THE WEBTOON. In the webtoon, she was just as strong as her sister and was never defeated. SHE NEVER HUNG OUT WITH THE BULLIES BECAUSE THE BULLIES WERE THE ONES HANGING OUT WITH HER. She was a boss just like her sister. Because of that, she was not someone who relies on her sister and rants about how shitty their life was. She was just a student and not a popstar.
Saet Byul's Gangster Friends - They do exists. The only difference is that they were also as powerful as Saet Byul in the webtoon. And the origins are legit as Geum Bi was also very rich in the webtoon. However, all of them were portrayed as very ugly in the Webtoon. That part when they were at the restaurant where they were contemplating who was the ugliest among them was legit. The dialogue also appeared in the webtoon. All of them were ugly except for Saet Byul.
Dal Shik (Dae Hyun's Reggae friend) - Now I'm really confused with this guy. I really don't know what was the reason they made him like that. He doesn't exist in the webtoon so the funniest scenes between him and Geum Bi didn't exist. I really liked their interaction but I don't get the point of making him like that. They should've just stick with a normal korean idiot webtoon artist and we'll still have the same amount of laughs. I don't understand what's the point of him being Dae Hyun's Reggae Friend. Do they think having flies on his hair is funny? Because I'm not amused. I feel like they deserved the criticism they had on this character.
Red Haired, Green Haired, and Blonde Bully - Since I said earlier that Episode 1 and 2 did happen accurately. These three also exists except for the Red Hair. The Red Hair in the webtoon actually had a better story. They had the same scuffle at the bathroom but was stopped by Saet Byul since she really had a bad stomach. She resolved that problem by shitting all over the bathroom. Eventually, the Red-haired woman became loyal to Saet Byul, that Saet Byul actually gave her the chance to enroll back at high school.

DRAMA REVIEW

Controversies - There were a lot of controversies regarding this Kdrama. I'm gonna try to explain it all.
First and foremost, Saet Byul's revealing clothes and low camera angles. In the webtoon, her clothes are way over the top. Kim Yoo Jung's clothes are nothing compared to her appearance in the webtoon. I think the directors and the writers tried to tone this down so hard that they just ended up using low camera angles.
Secondly, Reggae dude - As I've said, I don't know what are they smoking when they did this. Should've just omitted this, but I still loved Dal Shik along with Geum Bi.
Thirdly, Prostitution - I don't know about this either. It never happened in the webtoon, and since Eun Byul was also not a pop star, the webtoon doesn't showcase any student dancing at all.
Fourth, Age Gap - This is not actually a big deal for me. I mean, if people loved each other, why do I care. In the Kdrama, they actually toned it down by making Dae Hyun 30 years old while Saet Byul was 21 (or 20). But in the webtoon, Saet Byul was actually 20 years old and Dae Hyun was 33 years old. This is a fun fact since Kim Yoo Jung is actually 20 years old in real life and Ji Chang Wook is also 33.
Plot - I just wanna say that this kdrama could've been much better if they just followed the flow of the webtoon and retained the jokes. If they just removed the pervy parts and add some jokes and storylines of their own, this drama should've been gold! But no. Idk what happened but everything got derailed on episode 3 and they butchered Yeon Joo's character so much.
Acting - Despite how messy this was, I feel like Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung carried this so hard. Also, Ji Chang Wook's parent's acting was Divine Tier. Basically this was an ensemble cast inside a mediocre drama.
Directing, Cinematography and Special Effects - I'm just gonna say that this show may have issues, but it probably has one of the best fight scenes in 2020. They were just brief but they definitely invested in the fight scenes. I guess that's what we get after Fiery Priest blew up.
Final Notes: I really liked Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung but this drama just left me blank. I feel nothing after it. I don't know what this it. It might be because of disappointment. I feel like the whole cast tried their best. The cinematography is also great. But because they added some things that shouldn't be added, they received a lot of controversies that forced them to tone down the show even more. They should've tried to consult the MEMORIST team first because that was the proper Webtoon adaptation. In the end, I'm not sure to recommend this show. I really liked the webtoon because of its casual jokes and turnout of events. I liked Ji Chang Wook and Kim Yoo Jung being partnered together with stupid characters. I really enjoyed their interactions except that it never happened up until THE LAST FEW EPISODES. I hope I'll see them again with another set of cute and stupid main characters who were loyal to each other but this time please make sure that it happened at the start.

2020.08.14 18:09 leoberto1 30 year old male, not worried about living the rest of my days single

Edit: some of this post is plagerised but with good intention mostly as it accurately describes who i am too.
Hello all, as per the title, I am a 30 year old male in the UK who is genuinely not worried I may never meet someone to settle down with.
I see a lot of responses to statements like this stating you should love yourself, you shouldn’t need anyone to be happy etc.
The thing is, I do love and take care of myself.
I walk my dog everyday, workout everyday and do yoga once a week, and I’m in the best physical shape of my life.
I cook myself healthy meals.
I collect intruments and love reggae.
I own my own place.
I have a well paid job which I have held down for 2 years. Plus 10 years of similar well paid jobs.
I have never been into clothes since I was a kid, but I do take some pride in my appearance.
I read articles on subjects that interest me.
I really do feel like I am in a good place in life.
But, I don't enjoy casual sex, I only appreciate meanigful relationships and I'm quite happy to take the rest of my life carefully finding another one...
I really am doing all I can as well; I meet people who I am set up with, I go to every social occasion I’m invited to, I had some fun using Tinder and Bumble.
My love life has about as much action as I've put effort in for.
I have had up to this point 3 LTRs, which unfortunately all turned out to be how life goes, so at least I know I’m not hideously unattractive to the opposite sex. In fact apart from being on the shorter side I am really satified with how I look, and who I am, I know for a fact i make an excellent bedroom adveturer and a masculine/compasionate boyfriend.
I am really positive about eventually meeting someone I clicked with and could build something with, but I am genuinely thinking I could be one of those people who just never finds it but instead has an intresting fulfilling life i could even get to 6 LTRS by 40 at this rate with all the wonderful life expirences that go along with it. If I close my eyes now I just can see myself having that, and that cannot be a bad thing.
I know 30 is not old, old, but also it is not young, young; and all my friends bar one are getting married and having children, I just feel like I am having diffrent life expirences to them and maybe i should appreciate that.
Things that maybe work for me are:
I have no tattoos (this seems to have big appeal in the UK)
I have interest in modern/pop culture.
I dress in the latest trends, but also I don’t dress like your grandad, I just like classic style.
But these things are negotiable, I am an easy going person with some room to allow someone in my life.
I would say 80% of the time I am pretty happy, but man, it would be nice to have some companionship, someone to go to dinner with, someone to cook for, you know what I mean? Days when my friends are with their partners and young families can be pretty lonely - this is the majority of the time. Then when i do see them I appreicate it all the more,
I don’t really know what I’m hoping to gain from this post, maybe just some validation that I’m not the only person to feel like this in the entire history of mankind would be good. [right here with you buds](https://i.redd.it/tsj8l8ahuw431.jpg)

2020.08.08 00:05 why_farer (vintage?) receiver for Fried A/3 speakers

Hello!
I bought a pair of Fried A/3 speakers locally a while back. The guy threw in a monoprice bluetooth tube amp (the smaller 25watt one) for cheap - which has been fine enough except that it's burnt out 2 sets of tubes in ~2 years and I have no interested in playing that game anymore. Apparently the MP power is designed poorly for the tubes and is known to burn them out.
So, time to replace and upgrade. I thought the speakers sounded pretty good driven by the monoprice so I'm really excited to see how a higher quality amp can make them sing.
Goal: find a way to power my speakers and get music into them.
This setup will be exclusively for listening to music in our living/dining room. I don't need to shake the walls, but occasionally I do like to submerse myself in the waves. Saturday morning is reggae morning and I sometimes I like to turn that up too. We listen to a lot of FM radio (received via a cheap radio), as well as stream over bluetooth.
My budget is $350 USD and my partner really wants bluetooth capability. I was looking at contemporary integrated amps with bluetooth and there aren't many available options in this price range.
So, I started thinking maybe a vintage receiver is the way to go. Good bang for my buck, has built-in tuner, keeps some old sweet tech out of the junkyard, etc
Here are some other details:
In terms of power needs, I found this quote about the A/3s on audiogon: "They're 90dB efficient with a benign load, so they sound good on anything from 25W on up". I actually don't know how to interpret the 90dB efficient part of that, but it seems clear that 25W minimum should be my goal, and more -within reason - may be better.
Bonus if it has a phono pre-amp but I don't have a record player and no immediate plans to get one. I'm pretty happy to keep it at a 2-speaker setup, but it would also be a bonus if I could later expand by adding 2 more speakers. I live near Seattle and we have a pretty active craigslist market that I've been looking at (besides ebay, amazon, etc).
My questions for you all are:
1) do you think vintage receiver + bluetooth streaming adaptedongle/thingy is a good route for me?
2) If so, any suggestions on brands/eras of receivers I should be looking for. The market is overwhelmingly large.
3) If not, what other suggestions do you have? Something modern? (I almost bought a peachtree decco (mk I) off of ebay for $325, but that doesn't leave much room for adding streaming) Something vintage that's not a receiver?
4) Any other considerations I'm missing?
5) bonus question: should I be saving any of my budget for speaker stands? the speakers are currently sitting on our wood floor. I also have access to a wood shop and a welder so making my own is an option. Just curious to hear how important they are...
many many thanks awesome entities of the internet hive brain

My likes/hobbies - i have a small garden which i care for, it has 3 vine plants, i like traveling, hiking, trekking, and all the adventourous sports, i want to try them all someday, especially sky diving and para gliding, i also like cooking and watching movies, i watch a lot if cooking shows and like to try cooking new dishes, i am also philosophical and a good listener, i can listen to someone for hours, i like animals not just dogs and cats, every animal, be it snake, crocodile, comoro dragon, a racquet tail coronet, spiders, eagles, i like them all, for a pet i would like to have a dog as it's easily available, i like to learn new things a lot, i like to know the process of things, i like to watch anime, my all time favourite will be DBZ because of the nostalgia, except that i like full metal alchemist, the law of ueki, slam dunk, kuroko no basket, claymore, hellsing, one piece, naruto, gintama, detective conan, assassination classroom, death parade, eon kid, avatar, there a lot but right niw i can inly remember these, i think i have watched almost more than 100 animes, currently watching - one piece, detective conan, monogatari series, gintama, black cloverand some more which i can't remember at the moment, i also like to read manga like kengan ashura and omega, baki, if i have watched the anime but it was incomplete, then i prefer to read manga, if i feel like the anime adaptation was bad then i prefer to read it from the start, i also like to read manhwas like solo leveing is my favourite, tower of god, the tales of demons and gods, versatile mage, the beginning after the end, a returners magic should be special, red storm and many more, I also watch a lot of tv shows, my favourite one is supernatural, the walking dead, breaking bad, the flash, the 100, agents of shield, dark, money heist, lost, heroes, grimm, mindhunters, Lucifer, arrow, how i met your mother, the big bang theory, brooklynn nine nine, the office, the inbetweeners, game of thrones, and many more which i can't remember right now, I also like cleaning, making things, cosplaying, i have cosplayed 2 characters, which i am willing to share in pm not here, i like making cosplays and various other things, i used to sketch but i don't anymore because other things keep me busy, i like to watch documentaries of what's going on the world, like VICE's and Al-Jazeera's and 2 more youtube channels,
My dislike - people who don't show interest in talking, people who ghost without any reason, extremists
I am the type of person who would rather spend money in a dhaba or road side food stall than in a multinational restaurants like McDonald and KFC, one reason is that they are overpriced, second is i would rather support a small private business than a MNC of other country, i think i am pretty down to earth person, i like all the fast food, i don't say no to anything, i am a big fan of fruits, i can live my entire life on them, favourite would be mango and apple, once i ate a whole pineapple and i had a runny stomach, My humour is kinda weird too, you could compare me to michael scott from the office, i am not a racist, i like to quote things from movies, tv series and anime (psychological thriller, horror, adventure, action, sci-fi, real life stories) I also like music, i like listening to english (pop, rap, electonic, reggae, EDMs etc), I also listen to anime songs and sometimes korean music, I also listen to old punjabi and haryanvi songs and old hindi songs, i don't like the remixes of any songs but there are a few exceptions,
I am still a student, i want to be a psychologist, i don't want to disclose any further, i never forget people, i have numbers saved of people from 10 years ago, some college friends contacted me after 4-5 years which made me really happy, even though they are married women now, i also never had a romantic relationship,
I cannot stress this enough but don't message me if you are just gonna ghost me, i don't like it, if we are not compatible just be straight forward and tell me honestly,
So, everything i wrote everything that came to my mind at tge moment, i added 4-5 lines after reading other people's posts, i would also like to mention that i prefer to chat on a different platform,
Message me if the things i mentioned/personality interests you, chat is fine too

2020.07.25 18:11 didntbuyasquirrel 34f trying new ways to meet people

Hi, I recently had to move pretty far away from my boyfriend and friends. It's been really hard with none of my usual ways to meet people but I'd really like some conversation and maybe eventual hanging out.
I live in northeast Ohio now but I've lived in and traveled to a lot of places. Until covid I was still traveling as much as possible.
I like hiking, cooking, reading, and music. Lately I've been listening to a lot of jazz, rap, and reggae but I grew up on punk rock, industrial, and noise/experimental. I was going to school for philosophy a couple years ago and plan on going back soon. I was a cook but I lost my job because of the virus and have been trying to figure out what to do next. I used to be a musician and audio engineer and I also worked for the government for a while.
I'm interested in learning about art in particular lately but I'm also generally interested in all sorts of things. I love talking to people who are passionate about something and love to learn as much as I do. I'm missing a lot of that from my life right now and I feel like it's necessary to avoid this stagnating feeling of social distancing.
I don't really play games, unfortunately. I don't seem to have the attention span for them very often. I do love a game of euchre, though, if you ever need a partner.
Pre virus I mostly ventured out to concerts, breweries, comedy clubs, record/book shops, and museums/galleries. Now I mostly find places to hike or hang out in the woods for awhile, and watch a lot of documentaries.
Hit me up if you feel like chatting and maybe one day we could get a beer and smoke one.

2020.07.23 17:03 chouhoang My husband just told me his Top 3 KPOP songs

Long story short, my Korean teacher asked us to fill out a questionnaire for our Korean Conversation class which include the question 'List your 3 favourite Kpop songs'.
I won't bore you with my choices but I randomly asked my husband what his were. For context, he doesn't listen to Kpop. He's a rock fan, as in going to Download Festival 3 years in a row, massively into Radiohead and also works for a record label. His only experience with Kpop is whatever song I play in the house. I'm gonna quote his answers as below:
I was quite inspired by the other post about what Kpop song your parents like. Have you influenced your girlfriend/boyfriend/partner with your Kpop interest, and if yes, what song that you successfully got them into?
P/S: I’ve just remembered one time my husband sent me a Twitter screenshot of a fan protest in SK to remove Chen from EXO following the marriage news but only 7 people showed up. His only caption was LOL

2020.07.16 23:04 niceguy0422 20[M4F] Anywhere- Going to give this another try, if you want a picture of me, just send a DM

My name is Luis, I'm 20 years old, Mexican-American (from Oklahoma) and I speak Spanish.
I'm kind of a jack of all trades with the things that I like:
I'm nerdy haha, I love Marvel/DC, the Fables Comics, and a few random things here and there :) I kid you not, I once binge-watched all the MCU and DC movies, I just couldn't get enough of them. Also, I'm really into anything that is science fiction or based on true stories. I also love to watch documentaries, usually on PBS, or if I find something on YouTube. I haven't gotten the chance to watch TV shows recently. Still, I do like this series called Year One Million, Family Guy, The Simpsons, South Park, Rick and Morty, Big Bang Theory, Doc. House, Late Night Show, and a few others.
I'm pretty easy with music, I'll listen to anything:
I don't know if this a deal-breaker for you, but I'm into Country Music, haha.
I'm the kind of person who is really into learning new things. I'm a Biology MajoPsychology Minor and a Pre-Med student. I'm mostly into science/medical things, so you'll find me reading articles, watching scientific videos, and listening to some TedTalks. Also, I like history so I watch a lot of YouTube channels about said subject and like I said, a lot of science too. There are a few fun ones here and there as well.
I'm looking for someone who will encourage me to think outside the box. Lately, I feel like I've been burning out and would love to meet someone who was a different mindset and ponders on the more profound things in life. I'm the kind of person who sticks to their values and doesn't change for anyone because that person doesn't like me for who I am. That being said, I won't push my ideas and beliefs onto you, I love to hear other people's opinions and getting to know who they are.
I would like to find someone that is always thinking, someone open-minded who isn't afraid to ask questions. Someone with a curiosity for learning, whether it be about life or something they find exciting and a vivid imagination. I am hoping to find someone who is not just mentally stimulating, but also stimulating for your soul. Someone easy-going, and unpredictable in a fun, positive manner.
Another thing, I put others ahead of me, in other words, service to others is important for me. Volunteer work has been a significant part of my life, whether it was helping my dad mow lawns around the neighborhood or volunteering at the local library. I think service to others is essential for developing as a person and it feels great to give back to the community.
One thing you should know, I don't hold grudges, and I'm willing to forgive others. I believe in second chances and will be there for someone even if they do me wrong, that being said, please don't cross me, it's mean and hurts a lot more than you think. I don't really stress or worry too much about other people; I mostly reserve it for more important things like close friends, family, a career, or a partner :)
I'm always willing to try new things. I enjoy exploring places, especially when it's a little mysterious, like an adventure :) I haven't traveled that much, just a few states. I've been to Mexico, but I would love to travel more once I can afford it. I really would love to go traveling with you one day if that's your thing. I hope to find someone who will encourage me to get out of my comfort zone and get me to explore a bit more, but also in a way where they don't disrespect my boundaries.
Please be somewhere close to my age, so around 18-22, thank you :)
So, here's a little description of me:
I'm 5'5," I'm just a little chubby. Don't worry, it's not noticeable. I've been working on myself ever since quarantine started, and I've made a lot of progress. I'll leave it at that for now, don't wanna reveal too much haha. If you want a picture of me, just ask, I promise you I'm not bad looking, they don't call me Mr. Long, Tan and Handsome for nothing XD. Just kidding, no one calls me that, I'm short haha, though I like to think I'm handsome ;)
And just to show that I do speak Spanish :)
Bueno pues, mas o menos eso es todo lo que queria decir, espero que tengas un buen dia y te deseo buena suerte en todo lo que hagas.

2020.07.13 19:48 niceguy0422 20[M4F] Oklahoma - Anywhere. Latino, looking for a relationship and to meet new people

My name is Luis, I'm 20 years old, Mexican (born and raised in Oklahoma) and I speak Spanish.
I'm kind of a jack of all trades with the things that I like:
I'm nerdy jiji, I love Marvel/DC, the Fables Comics, and a few random things here and there :) I kid you not, I once binge-watched all the MCU and DC movies, I couldn't get enough of them haha.
By the way, if you have any songs that you want to share, feel free to do so, I love hearing about things that you enjoy.
I'm the kind of person who is really into learning new things. I'm a Biology MajoPsychology Minor and a Pre-Med student. I'm mostly into science/medical things, so you'll find me reading articles, watching scientific videos, and listening to some TedTalks. Also, I watch a lot of YouTube channels about history and and like I said, a lot of science too. There are a few fun ones here and there as well.
I'm looking for someone who will encourage me to think outside the box. Lately, I feel like I've been burning out and would love to meet someone who was a different mindset and ponders on the more profound things in life. I'm the kind of person who sticks to their values and doesn't change for anyone because that hypothetical person doesn't like me for who I am. That being said, I won't push my ideas and beliefs onto you, I love to hear other people's opinions and getting to know who they are.
Another thing, I put others ahead of me, in other words, service to others is important for me. Volunteer work has been a significant part of my life, whether it was helping my dad mow lawns around the neighborhood or volunteering at the local library. I think service to others is essential for developing as a person and to have a healthy mindset.
One thing you should know, I don't hold grudges, and I'm willing to forgive others. I believe in second chances and will be there for someone even if they do me wrong, that being said, don't cross me. I don't really stress about people; I mostly reserve it for more important things like close friends, family, a career, or a hypothetical partner :)
I'm always willing to try new things. I enjoy exploring places, especially when it's a little mysterious, like an adventure :) I haven't traveled that much, just a few states. I've been to Mexico, but I would love to travel more once I can afford it. I really wanted to join the skydiving club at my university, but I couldn't afford it. I hope to find someone who will encourage me to get out of my comfort zone and get me to explore a bit more, but also in a way where they don't disrespect my boundaries.
So, here's a little description of me:
I'm 5'5," I'm just a little chubby. Don't worry, it's not noticeable. I've been working on myself ever since quarantine started, and I've made a lot of progress. I'll leave it at that for now, don't wanna reveal too much haha.
Bueno pues, mas o menos eso es todo lo que queria decir, espero que tengas un buen dia y te deseo buena suerte en todo lo que haces.

2020.06.20 00:03 helping-bot Voting/Abortion.

I'm grouping these 2 together because they are directly related.
  1. I deleted this part because I feel it is no longer relevant thanks to a few commenters here. Thank you for introducing me to new views and issues on voter suppression. u/MizDiana put the voting thing into perspective. Also u/Germandeath-reggae
  2. Abortion. I have an opinion about abortion. I've been told I have no right to an opinion. In order to support something I must have an opinion on it. My opinion is that people have the right to their own bodies. I want the right to piercings, tattoos, cosmetic surgeries, hormone replacement therapy, life saving medical procedures, medication, and anything really. My opinion on abortion directly correlates to all of these things. In addition I always refute the argument of men having a say by trying to explain how a healthy relationship with ample communication works as well as having a good selection process for a partner. Could anyone please tell me why this opinion is wrong and also why I don't have the right to an opinion?
I mostly received all of this through school. Either students or teachers and sometimes both. Some of this has persisted through my entire life and I would like to at least try to see where I'm going wrong or maybe undo some of this? It seems like feminism is a machine to perpetuate hatred and justify abuse. It seems like feminism creates it's own problems to give you an excuse to fight. I don't know if I could ever call myself a feminist but I would like to try to understand some of this or be able to agree on some things.

2020.06.18 12:04 finnagains 'Sitting in Limbo' BBC Drama of Windrush Immigrants Struggles in UK

Youtube Trailer - https://youtu.be/1brHDPtSgZo
The BBC’s Sitting in Limbo is a dramatisation of the real-life story of Anthony Bryan, who was caught up in the anti-migrant Windrush Scandal and almost deported. Anthony had lived legally in the UK for 53 years.
Like many migrants of his generation, Anthony arrived in Britain from Jamaica on his mother’s passport. The year was 1965 and he was eight years old. Between 1948 and 1973, workers from the colonies were invited to the “Mother Country” to answer the labour shortage in the UK. Migrants from the Caribbean, especially Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados, came to be known as the Windrush generation, after the ship MV Empire Windrush, which landed 500 Jamaicans at Tilbury, Essex on June 22, 1948.
The 1971 Immigration Act granted post-war Commonwealth immigrants leave to remain in the UK, but did not issue them any paperwork or keep records. Draconian legislation passed by the Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition in 2012 demanded proof of residency to obtain healthcare, open a bank account, get a job or rent a home. According to the Migration Observatory at Oxford University, 50,000 people were left in limbo, without regularised residency status.
Sitting in Limbo, a 90-minute drama, was directed by young filmmaker Stella Corradi. Novelist Stephen S. Thompson, Anthony Bryan’s half-brother, wrote the script.
The opening sequence presents some bald facts in regard to the anti-migrant agenda pursued by all of Britain’s main parties.
In 2007, the Labour government first used the term “hostile environment” when discussing the polices to be adopted regarding undocumented migrant workers.
In 2012, David Cameron’s Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition government formed a ministerial team that became known as the “Hostile Environment Working Group.”
The drama then introduces us to the characters. The year is 2016, the place Edmonton in North London, a family gathering. The occasion is Anthony’s birthday. There is good food, reggae music and the company of friends. This is a happy family.
The affection between Anthony and his partner Janet is clear. His mother Mama Lou, who retired 10 years previously to her place of birth in Jamaica after working 30 years in Britain’s National Health Service, sings Happy Birthday on Skype. Anthony promises to visit just as soon as he gets a passport.
Little do they anticipate the Kafkaesque nightmare to come.
The film cuts to news footage at the time. Cameron is shown declaring, “We would like to see net immigration in the tens of thousands, rather than in the hundreds of thousands.”
Then Home Secretary Theresa May mounts a rostrum emblazoned with the Tory mantra “For Hardworking People,” to announce, “We will soon publish the Immigration Bill… which will make it easier to get rid of people who have no right to be here.”
Anthony Bryan works hard as a paintedecorator, has paid his taxes, brought up a family and now has grandchildren.
Vicious anti-immigrant measures were introduced in the aftermath of the 2008 banking crash and subsequent bailout, to try and divide the working class by scapegoating ethnic minorities for the austerity that followed.
The problems begin for Anthony (Patrick Robinson) after he applies for a passport. On his way to work, a Home Office Immigration Enforcement van passes by. His employer has received a letter from the Home Office and breaks the bad news: “You’re not eligible to work in the UK. You’re not a UK citizen.”
We follow Anthony to Beckett House Immigration Reporting Centre. Treated like a criminal, he must report once a fortnight. The immigration official requests Anthony’s birth certificate and mother’s passport to prove his residence in the UK since 1965. The passport was lost years ago.
Anthony faces a wall of bureaucracy and red tape. Any request for help or information is met with, “We are not at liberty to disclose that information … It’s up to you to provide evidence to support your claim that you have lived here since 1965.”
In one scene, Anthony’s partner Janet (Nadine Marshall) arrives at Beckett House with a file stuffed with documentation proving his right to citizenship, with family photos showing that Gary (C.J. Beckford) and Eileen (Pippa Bennett-Warner) are his children, a testimonial from his headmaster and so on. It is never enough.
The Home Office, now under Amber Rudd, is working towards achieving removal targets, urging officials to deport the “low-hanging fruit.” When the scandal erupted in April 2018, Rudd, after first lying to parliament about the existence of targets, was forced to resign.
Anthony’s first detention is terrifying. On the morning of September 12, 2016, there is loud hammering on the front door followed by the command: “Open up! Immigration!” He is arrested on suspicion of being an illegal immigrant and sent 166 miles from London to the Verne Detention Centre in Dorset.
After two and a half weeks Anthony is released, with no explanation. His ordeal, however, is not over.
The torture is played out over three years, during which time Anthony loses his home due to rent arrears, is detained again and only rescued from imminent deportation when family and friends raise £1,500 for a solicitor. Even after a court case where the judge grants indefinite relief against the deportation order and excoriates the Home Office, the threat of deportation looms.
It is only when Anthony’s family begin a public campaign and petition, and other cases come to light, that he finally gets his passport. He tells a Joint Committee on Human Rights the injustice he has suffered “cost me everything. It has cost me my job. It has cost me my home. It has cost me my freedom. It has cost me my identity.”
The drama nears its end with now Prime Minister Theresa May apologising profusely through crocodile tears. “We are putting it right,” she declares.
The film puts the record straight:
“In April 2018, it was revealed that in 2010 the Home Office destroyed the landing cards of thousands of Windrush immigrants. Later that year, the Home Office admitted that they were responsible for wrongfully detaining at least 850 people between 2012 and 2017. In 2019, 83 were deported, and at least 13 died before the Home Office acknowledged their mistake. In May 2020, the Home Office revealed 1,275 applications for the Windrush Compensation Scheme. Only 60 received any compensation.”
On June 1, Anthony Bryan was offered compensation for only one part of his application to the Compensation scheme, for unlawful detention.
Thompson has written a tight script, without undue sentiment or hyperbole. The dark events are punctuated with humour. On reading the script, actor Patrick Robinson, who convincingly plays Anthony, was moved to tears. Nadine Marshall plays Anthony’s gentle though indomitable partner Janet McKay to perfection. The drama is directed sympathetically by Corradi, whose use of muted colour exuding a warm glow in the domestic scenes expresses the film makers’ partisanship for Bryan and his family. The viewer feels abhorrence for the injustices meted out to the Windrush generation.
This drama will deservedly attract a wide audience, airing at a time of deep anger in the face of police violence, racism and social inequality, which, triggered by the heinous murder of George Floyd in the United States, has led to mass protests in the UK as part of a global outpouring of class solidarity.
Sitting in Limbo was first shown on BBC1 June 8. It is available now for 11 months on BBC iPlayer.

2020.06.16 01:09 stupendousconfection My first psilocybin trip with my gf 🍄❤️

Trip report-
First time tripping on shrooms with my girl (we’ve tried acid together and I’ve done acid and shrooms a decent handful of times) came in liquid form from a trusted source not sure of the dosage but felt like about 1.5-2gs. We’d spent the day preparing; set up some led lights in our little fort we built, got a load of tropical fruit (highly recommend I’m doing it every time I trip now) and drink and had a few albums ready ( reggae, John Hopkins uni psilocybin study playlist, shpongle)
Trip - 9:45 - drop 10:00 - first signs of trip coming on 10:30-11:15 - feeling the bodyload pretty strong clothes feel weird and seeing cool visuals on the wood and blankets we had hung up Felt like every thing was flowing and had some slight closed eye visuals a lot more vivid for my partner. Started the John Hopkins playlist which was interesting as I’ve researched about the trials they have done. 12:35 - had sex while peaking was amazing felt like such a adventure for both of us big vibes of love after felt like a fairy tale. Rolled a fatty and was listening to icarus ayahuasca song felt like we was listening to Mother Nature herself. 1:30 - started the shpongle album with headphones but smoking gets me kinda hazy and I couldn’t listen to the music properly cause I kept thinking about mostly dumb shit, maybe meditation could help avoid this? 3:00-4:30 - coming down knew I wouldn’t be able to sleep for a few hours so spun on some relaxing music and chatted. My girlfriend fell asleep pretty soon after. Started to feel quite nauseas till I fell alseep. 5:30 - a fucking police helicopter was circling my house for like a hour turns out there was someone who was evading the police hiding in my area. Wasn’t too paranoid cause Ik I had no drugs in my crib anymore. Pretty much just sober and knackered at this point and I fell asleep pretty soon after the helicopter fucked off.
All in all a wicked day and a lovely evening gonna practice meditation before my next trip has any of you have any experience of it helping?

Hi there, Me and my partner have decided to get married while we're visiting the island, as a treat and wondered if anyone could help us out with a few questions?
We're looking for a wedding planner, to do a small event on the beach for the ceremony, then head to a restaurant/bar for food and drinks. All very low key and no more than 20 people.
Any advice appreciated

2020.06.08 00:49 Mustardisthebest Need a Somewhat Unique, Cross-Cultural Girl's Name

We're having a baby. We're a mixed race couple. My partner's heritage is Pakistani Muslim from the Punjab region. My heritage is Irish/Scottish/a little bit of British and French (or just generic white Canadian).
The baby is taking my last name, which is a pretty common last name for Irish immigrants in Canada/USA, so I'd like the first name to be somewhat more uncommon/unique (nothing in the top 100 names).
I also want a name that has a connection to my partner's culture so that the baby feels included among her cousins (all of whom are brown). I also recognize that as a person of colour my baby's going to face challenges and potential racism and I'd love a name that allows her to 'fit in' as needed.
But I'm not in love with any Urdu names I've encountered, and some of the names that work best for both cultures (Sonya and Sofie, for example) have already been taken by cousins. I also don't know how to pronounce many Islamic names, since the spelling and pronunciation often vary (and my partner is not helping).
To make things MORE difficult, I also dislike androgynous names. So...help?
Names we've discussed at length:
Beatrix (I love this name, partner likes it, but it doesn't connect to my partner's culture at all)
Anushka (we're neither Russian nor Indian, which seems to be where this name is most common. BUT it is both white and brown, and is cute. I know that nicknames-as-real-names is trendy right now, which is a score against Anushka, but I'm hoping it's uncommon enough that it doesn't matter.)
Kaya (I don't love this name. My partner does. His love may stem from reference to marijuana in a reggae song. I have a firm no naming babies after drugs policy, so Kaya is out).
Hannah (we both are okay with this name as a compromise, if we can't find anything better, but we don't love it. Its popularity means that my baby will be one of thousands of Hannah Mylastnames).

Many thanks!

2020.05.24 23:06 Pearsponge Album Backgrounds #4: Turnstiles

In its birthday week, I will be presenting Turnstiles! Turnstiles is a celebration of Billy moving back to New York after living three years in Los Angeles. The album was created in 1975 and brought many interesting changes to the orchestration. First off, Joel produced the album himself. Because Billy is a musician and not a producer, the album doesn’t sound all that great, with a lot of the vocals being over-synthesized.
This was also the first album with the original Billy Joel Band. They were originally his touring band, but when Billy produced the album himself he got to choose the band. The longest-lasting member of the original Billy Joel Band was Liberty DeVitto, who was fired in 2006. Turnstiles performed poorly on the charts, but in later years it has received the recognition it deserves through popular songs such as Miami 2017 and New York State of Mind. Here are the backgrounds of the album:
Say Goodbye to Hollywood: The theme of the album becomes clear straight from the start. Billy is leaving Los Angeles, and saying goodbye to Hollywood. The orchestration of the song was inspired by “Be My Baby” by The Ronettes, the opening drums are even copied straight from it. Billy wanted the song to be a “wall of sound”, something he thought “Be My Baby” achieved.
Summer Highland Falls”: This is another one of those songs with two meanings. Most notable is the manic depression meaning. Billy has confirmed that he is bipolar, which he sings about in this song and I Go to Extremes on Storm Front. If you listen closely to the piano, you will hear that the right-hand plays fast, manic notes, while the left-hand plays slow depressing notes. The song is also about how relationships never are perfect, and that you will always have differences from your partner.
All You Wanna Do Is Dance: In the mid-70s, reggae music was at its peak of popularity, many great artists incorporated it into their work, and Billy was one of them. The song is about a girl who misses the good old days in the 50s and 60s. Years later, Billy became the girl who wants to dance and he made “An Innocent Man”.
New York State of Mind: While sitting on a Greyhound Bus on his way to Highland Falls after a concert, Billy became homesick. He was tired of living in LA and wanted to go home. The lyrics came to him almost instantly, and as soon as he got home, he sat down at the piano and according to himself, wrote it in 20 minutes.
James: The character James is a combination of multiple people Billy knew. They were people who had passions they threw away because of expectations from their parents and society. Billy thought that it was sad that so many had to do this, while he was able to follow his dream of becoming a musician.
Prelude / Angry Young Man: The opening of the Prelude part is a piano version of the drum intro of “Wipeout” by The Surfaris. Growing up, Billy and his friends liked drumming the beat on their desks. The “Angry Young Man” part is written about a former road manager of Billy’s. He wasn’t good with people and didn’t do his job well. Because of this, he was fired, which made him even angrier.
I’ve Loved These Days: In this final goodbye to Los Angeles, Billy sings about the posh lifestyle he had had while in LA. The song signifies big changes in Billy’s life, as he one year later would make it big. The song is bitter-sweet; despite Billy saying that he liked the lifestyle, he sings of it almost sarcastically. Interestingly enough, the demo for the song was called “These Rhinestone Days”. A rhinestone is a fake diamond often made of plastic, which may symbolize that even though the lifestyle seems nice, it’s all fake.
Miami 2017: Imagine putting a city and the title and singing about a different one. The 70s was a tough time for New York, with high crime rates and the city on the brink of default (which is a term I don’t know well enough to explain. In short, they were going broke). In Miami 2017, Billy imagined a kind of worst-case scenario, where the city is invaded and blown up. When making the title of the song, Billy tried to think of a year far in the future where he would be old and living in Florida telling the tale of New York. In later years, the song has become a sort of anthem for New York in distress. Billy played it after 9/11, and more recently, for the COVID-19 outbreak in New York. The song shows that “we might be beaten down, but we aren’t going anywhere”’.
That concludes the backgrounds for Turnstiles. As usual, leave more info in the comments as I surely have missed a lot. Next week I’ll be covering Billy’s real breakthrough: The Stranger.
